Basic Operation and Safety of a Fiber Laser Metal Cutting Machine

2025-11-17

A fiber laser metal cutting machine is a modern processing device that uses a high-energy laser beam to burn the material, thereby cutting it. Depending on the power output, a fiber laser metal cutting machine can process both metal and non-metal materials. Laboratory fiber laser metal cutting machines generally only process non-metal materials such as basswood plywood, acrylic, corrugated cardboard, and printer paper, typically with a thickness of less than 10mm.

Basic Operation of a Fiber Laser Metal Cutting Machine

1. Powering On the Machine

First, turn the safety key to "On." The button on the left is the emergency stop button, allowing you to stop the machine instantly in the event of an emergency! Turn off the power! Then, turn on the main power supply and the laser power supply in sequence.

2. Opening the Water Tank

The water tank provides water circulation. To ensure cooling and heat dissipation of the laser head and prevent overheating, always open the water tank before starting laser cutting.

After a period of use, the water level in the water tank will decrease, so ensure that the water level remains within a normal range. It is best to use purified water for water circulation.

3. Place the material to be processed

Select the material of appropriate size and place it on the cutting table. Use strong magnets to fix the material on all sides and ensure that the material is placed flat. (Note: There should be no magnets in the area where the laser head needs to cut to avoid affecting the laser cutting.)

After placing the material, please adjust the height of the cutting head according to the thickness of the material. The laser head should be 6 mm away from the surface of the material to be processed. Make sure the focal length is correct.

4. Start cutting

(1) Close the door of the fiber laser metal cutting machine: pay attention to the surrounding environment when closing it to avoid hurting others.

(2) Click [File], check that the file has been transferred correctly, and click [OK].

(3) Set the processing starting point, control the position of the laser head with the direction keys, select the appropriate inspiration position, click [Locate], and then click [Border] to let the laser head move within the border to ensure that the material is within the processing range.

(4) Finally, click [Start] to start the machine and start cutting. If there are any problems during the cutting process, click [Pause].

(5) Monitor the progress: During the processing, there must be someone to observe the processing situation to ensure the normal operation of the machine and processing safety. In case of emergency, press the "Emergency Stop" button immediately, "Stop in one shot"! Cut off the power and stop all work!

5. End of cutting

(1) Move the laser head to a safe position, open the door of the fiber laser metal cutting machine, and check whether the material is completely cut through. (Note: Do not move the magnet and material first. If it is not cut through, you can cut the part that needs to be cut again.) If it is cut through, take out the workpiece and check whether the workpiece is complete.

(2) After the cutting is completed, turn off the laser cutting switch first, and then turn off the main power.

Fiber Laser Metal Cutting Machine

Safety of using fiber laser metal cutting machine

Fiber laser metal cutting machine has efficient processing capabilities. Similarly, laser processing safety issues cannot be ignored. If the machine is used improperly, it will cause serious damage to our eyes and skin, and even cause serious accidents such as fire, electric shock and burns.

In order to avoid unnecessary injuries, it is recommended to do the following laser safety protection work:

1. Equipped with effective ventilation devices and suitable fire extinguishers

Laser processing sites should be equipped with effective ventilation devices and equipped with suitable fire extinguishers according to different processing materials. For example, foam fire extinguishers are suitable for fires caused by burning solid combustible materials such as wood and rubber.

2. Operators must be present and aware of the surrounding environment.

While the machine is operating, the operator must observe the processing to prevent accidents.

In particular, if multiple people are watching, the operator should be aware of their surroundings to avoid injuring others when opening the machine door or moving the laser head.

3. Turn on the air pump/compressor and press the emergency stop button if necessary.

While the machine is operating, the air pump or compressor must be turned on and kept blowing air to prevent material combustion.

If you notice excessive smoke or burning material during processing, immediately press the emergency stop button to stop processing and, if necessary, use a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire.

4. Consult before processing unknown materials.

While fiber laser metal cutting machines can process a wide variety of materials, not all materials are suitable for laser processing. When processing other unknown materials, please consult a laser professional before processing.

5. Promptly remove waste and keep away from flammable materials.

Do not place flammable materials inside the machine. Promptly remove waste generated after processing to prevent it from being ignited by the laser and causing a fire.

6.Turn off all switches and remove the key.

After completing processing, the operator must turn off all switches and the power supply of the machine and promptly remove the key to prevent accidental activation or misuse.
