What Are the Operating Procedures for Laser Cutting Machines?

2026-02-03

For businesses, a laser cutting machine is not only a production tool but also a guarantee of efficiency and product quality. To ensure stable operation, the equipment alone is not enough; a complete set of scientific and executable operating procedures is needed to support it.

Routine checks before starting the machine:

Check the lenses:

Check the cleanliness of the protective lenses.  If they are dirty, clean them immediately. If there are burn marks affecting performance, replace them promptly.

Check the ceramic ring:

Check if the ceramic ring is loose. A loose ceramic ring will affect the stability of the equipment's cutting operation.

Check the copper nozzle:

Check the copper nozzle. If the nozzle opening is irregular or has obvious damage, it is recommended to replace it promptly. After each nozzle replacement, perform floating head calibration and center alignment to avoid affecting the cutting effect.

Check the center alignment:

Check the center alignment to ensure the coaxiality of the cutting head. Use transparent tape for adjustment, and use a small nozzle for greater precision.

Floating head calibration:

Perform floating head calibration every day when starting the machine.

Gas path inspection:

Check the gas source and the remaining gas to ensure it meets the cutting production requirements. Check for any gas leaks in the gas path.

Check the dust cover:

Clean the dust cover, check its integrity and stability, and open the dust cover to clean the guide rails and racks.

Operating precautions:

Do not leave your post without authorization:

When the equipment is running, operators must not leave their posts without authorization or entrust others to supervise. If you need to leave for any reason, stop the machine or turn off the power switch.

Fire safety:

Keep fire extinguishers readily available; turn off the laser or shutter when not processing; do not place paper, cloth, or other flammable materials near unprotected laser beams.

Identify problems promptly:

If any abnormalities are found during processing, stop the machine immediately, troubleshoot the problem promptly, or contact High Energy Laser after-sales engineers for feedback and communication.

Gas cylinder usage:

During gas cylinder use, avoid crushing the connecting wires to prevent electrical leakage accidents. The use and transportation of gas cylinders should comply with gas cylinder inspection regulations. Gas cylinders are prohibited from being exposed to direct sunlight or near heat sources. When opening the cylinder valve, the operator must stand to the side of the valve. Regular Maintenance:

High-voltage safety procedures must be followed during maintenance. Maintenance must be performed according to regulations and procedures every 40 operating hours or weekly, and every 1000 operating hours or every six months.

Material Loading Instructions:

When loading the sheet metal, pay attention to keeping the long, straight edge of the sheet parallel to the long edge of the machine to reduce the time spent on alignment.

The operating procedures for laser cutting machines are not only crucial for equipment efficiency but also for the personal safety of the operators. Operators must strictly follow the procedures, from pre-startup checks and precautions during operation to regular maintenance and safety protection; no step should be overlooked. Only by incorporating standardized operation into daily habits can stable equipment operation, production safety, and ultimately, efficient and high-quality processing results be ensured.
