How to Adjust the Parameters of a Handheld Laser Welding Machine?

2025-12-29

In metal processing, handheld laser welding machines have become the preferred choice for many companies due to their flexible operation and high welding efficiency. However, many users encounter a common problem—how to adjust the parameters to achieve both fast and stable welding?

Based on years of experience serving customers, Feiying Laser has summarized several practical adjustment strategies to help you quickly find the right settings for your workpiece. (The following steps are for your reference:)

Step 1: Check the power.

Laser power determines the penetration depth and weld width. Thick plates require high power, while thin plates are advised to have lower power to avoid burn-through. You can start with a low-power test weld and gradually increase the power based on the weld formation.

Step 2: Adjust the speed.

Power and welding speed are a "partner." Too high a speed can easily result in incomplete fusion; too slow a speed can cause heat buildup and material deformation. After finding the appropriate power, adjust the speed to ensure a continuous and smooth weld.

Step 3: Adjust the focus.

The focus position determines the precision of the laser energy application. Focusing too high or too low will affect the weld morphology. It's generally recommended to accurately focus the laser on the center of the weld, fine-tuning as needed.

Fourth, don't overlook pulse parameters.

In pulse mode, frequency affects welding speed, and pulse width affects welding depth. Higher frequency means faster speed, but quality must be considered; a longer pulse width increases penetration, but excessive heat can occur.

Fifth, ensure proper gas protection.

Shielding gas prevents welding oxidation. Using argon as an example, too low a flow rate provides insufficient protection, while too high a flow rate disrupts the molten pool. Finding a stable gas flow rate based on the material and process will result in a more aesthetically pleasing and durable weld.

At Feiying, our handheld laser welding machine features a simple and intuitive interface. All the above parameters can be quickly adjusted on the panel, and the effect can be observed in real time. We recommend users perform test welds before formal production, gradually optimizing parameters by observing the weld condition until the ideal result is achieved.

Feiying always hopes that the equipment not only "welds well," but also that every user understands how to adjust it to maximize the machine's performance. If you require assistance, please send your information to master@flelaser.com. We will reply to you as soon as possible.
